Comanche Lake has an elevation of 10,000 feet and is in the Comanche Peak Wilderness area. Anglers can find cutthroat trout if they put the effort in. Fortunately, most of the shoreline is accessible for fishing. Camping is allowed nearby the lake in designated campsites only. No open campfires are allowed. A spruce forest surrounds the lake. Please remember to use Leave No Trace practices. Log in for additional details...
Getting there:
Hwy 287 to Laporte. Take Hwy 14 west and turn south on Pingree Road (63E). Continue on Pingree and turn north on West CR 145 (Campground Rd). *Caution: High Clearance Road! Follow this to the Beaver Creek Trailhead just before Sky Ranch Lutheran Camp. If Sky Ranch gate is open, keep going to another Beaver Creek Trail Head to save a couple miles. From the trailhead, take the Beaver Creek Trail to the Comanche Lake Trail. Hike about a mile to the lake.
