Unofficially, the Grand Mesa is recognized as the largest flat top mountain in the world. With over 100 lakes and reservoirs containing habitat and conditions suitable for fish populations year-round, a multitude of trout species can be found in a relatively small area.

Getting there:
From Cedaredge, travel north on Highway 65 16.0 miles and turn right onto Forest Road 121 just past the Forest Service Visitor Center. Continue 0.3 mile and turn right into the Ward Lake campground area. Follow the road through the campground to the lower campground adjacent to the lake. Drive below the Ward Lake dam, park, and hike 0.3 miles to the lake.
From Mesa, travel south approximately 22.4 miles to FS121 and follow instructions above to the lake.
