General Details:

Set of 4 cutthroat trout lakes in James Peak Wilderness Area, managed by Boulder Ranger District.

Upper has cuts, mid lakes have brook trout, with splake being present in the mid-south lake.

Middle-South - 8.6 acres, 29 feet deep
Middle-North Lake - 12.0 acres, 14 feet deep

Getting there:

Follow Google Maps directions to the Moffat Tunnel East Portal Trailhead parking area. From Boulder, CO take Hwy 119 all the way past Nederland as it turns to the south. At Rollinsville, take E Portal Rd all the way to the parking lot where the road dead ends. From there take the South Boulder Creek trail until the trail splits off for Clayton Lake. Be aware the trail is NOT well marked, and it's recommended you download an offline map for reference. Map can be found via the AllTrails app or alltrails.com. USFS: From Nederland, travel south for 4.5 miles on Colorado Highway 119 to Rollinsville. Turn west onto the gravel Gilpin County Road 16 and continue eight miles to the Moffat Tunnel. A large parking area is available at the East Portal Trailhead.
