The largest lake on the Grand Mesa is an extremely popular lake located between Mesa and Cedaredge, CO. Facilities include two campgrounds, a boat launch, fish cleaning station and a privately owned/operated lodge on the north side of the lake offering rustic cabins, motel rooms, food, fuel, bait and tackle, fishing licenses, and boat rentals. Getting there:
From Cedaredge, go north on Highway 65 approximately 17 miles. Just past the Forest Service Visitor Center, take a left turn onto FS road 116 (often called Island Lake Rd.) which will skirt the south side of the lake. It is 0.3 miles from the turn to the boat launch, just past the Little Bear Campground. Travel further on this road to access the Island Lake Campground.
Alternatively, from Mesa travel 22.6 miles on Highway 65 to the marked turn for FS 116 on the right side of the road. This will lead to the Island Campground and the south side of the lake.
