Fur ban on Fall ballot and its impact on fishing

Post By: El Jefe      Posted: 9/23/2024 3:35:32 PM     Points: 346

There is an anti-fur initiative on the ballot this Fall in Colorado. To understand its impact on fly fishing go to 1:58 in the link.
IMHO, fishermen and hunters are losing their rights incrementally.

I don't live in Denver, but I doubt it will pass. Good on you for bringing it to people's attention though!

Incrementalism has always been about fear, like the way Obama was supposed to take everyone's guns, which never happened. It's good you posted this because we all can think for ourselves.

Biggest thing on this one is it could affect fly shops. An elk hair caddis is not specifically in the language of the bill, however it’s not specifically not. It’s kinda broad and vague from my reading of it. And it would be a shame for all the fly shops in Denver to have to move or find fur alternatives in order to sell flys, and fur based tying materials.

Funny how a few months back, some fisherman didn't seem to concerned about the Wildlife Commissioners that were being appointed since hunters didn't represent much of the state population or general interest.

Now we have another ballot issue that picks away at hunters - yet now the fisherman can be impacted.

The writings on the wall, we join together or lose our rights together.

Vote this down along with a NO vot on Ballot Issue 127

Through June of 2025 CPW will make estimated $410,000.00 and about $450,000.00 per year there after on Mt Lion tags alone. That will be eliminated with a YES vote for an average of 500 Mt lions per year legally harvested.
A YES vote will increase expenditures in CPW by about $22,000 in FY 24-25 and $44,000 in FY 25-26.
A YES vote takes away CPWs ability to scientifically manage wildlife.
Directly from the State Ballot Info Book.

For the folks under the impression these cats are killed, photographed and discarded look up Mt lion recipes. Its excellent.

If you think that these 500 cats on average will be saved by a YES vote think again. These cats will still be managed by wildlife officials.

Just like the removal of the spring bear hunting season: In 2020 Colorado Springs euthanizes 158 bears alone! ( I cant confirm the 2021+ years but have been told they are over 200 a year)

This is also the first step in removed dogs from hunting.

Im not here to argue just stating facts that are readily available to the public. Dont let emotions get in the way of scientific wildlife management.
