finally got a day yesterday with normal late summer flows and good weather. drove from denver to the Arkansas headwaters at Hayden Meadows. only one in the lot at 8:30. Walked downstream a mile or so to work up i love this stretch as it's flat with no boulder climbing or steep banks or thick woods... a welcome break from challenging river fishing and wading. I used my standard killer fly, big black foam sailor ant, with a midge dropper. the browns were slamming it in the riffles right away and only one all morning hit the dropper. got more than 10 nice browns in couple hours there, most in the 13-14 range, all on top. Other than the big bear paw print in the sandy bank, it was a great morning.
