Glendo or Grey Rocks?

Post By: spicyhombre      Posted: 8/27/2024 5:20:08 PM     Points: 6190
Which lake do you like better, Glendo or Grey Rocks? I have never been to either but might head up this weekend. I mainly want to target bass but also after walleye. Fishing from boat.

I’ve never been to grey rock but have heard great things. Glendo has my vote. What a fishery out there. When you find them you’re in for a treat. Good luck

Never fished either one of them this time of year but earlier in the season Glendo is very productive for me. I'm pretty sure they're both pretty low in Water by this time of year.

Never been to Glendo. Have had a great time at Grey Rocks though.

It looks like Glendo is low but still boatable. Not sure how low or how concerned I should be about the level. It is hard to find this info and the Laramie Ranger Office doesn't even really know what the conditions are at Grayrocks.

Still might go but probably in 2 weeks.

Any suggestions on Glendo camping areas?

Bennett hill campground is near the fish cleaning station. If you want a more private area red hill is only 5 minutes from there.

We were up at Glendo Tues& Wed. Water level is at 31% today. Still going out. Whiskey Gulch low water ramp is open & it has a dock there. Water temp is 76 average. Lots of dinks caught with the occasional 20-26 caught. We were jigging raps & spoons for eyes. Very slow for most anglers there unless you are are very adept to jigging and changing methods. We will wait to go back now 'til they increase the flow in the fall. Glendo is our go to lake for the next 3 months now. Very few campers but it should be busier this weekend. You can get very informed info at the Glendo ANS station. They know what's going on. Can't leave any water craft on the lake shore overnight due to water level. Have fun & FISH ON!

walleyeshark-
When do they typically start filling again?

Should be interesting seeing the lake for the first time as low as it is. We will have to look out for the currently dry structure to hit next year when the levels come up.

Goose-
We booked a spot in Red Hill. We are the only ones currently booked so should be peaceful. Hopefully no jack wagons decide to book next to us )

Spicyhombre... Typically we wait 'til the 2nd or 3rd week in Sept to go up. Usually they start a bit of water towards the end of the month. It's usually enough to keep using Reno (no dock), or the preferred Whiskey Gulch low water ramps. It's all NE's fault for using too much water for crops. HaHaHa. What we did a portion this is marked some great new areas with flats & humps. Always good info to be had now regards of catch rate. And need I say, no traffic or crowds there. I fish the Tooth now for smallest and eyes at night, but it's great to be Glendo any time....

Just got back from Glendo. Water level is down to 23% according to AIS inspector. Tough bite. Lots of fished marked but didn’t catch many on first day using Jerkbaits, spoons, blade baits, jigs, Lindy rigs, etc.
Today we got em on perch patterns trolled at 2.5 MPH in 15-21’
Asked AIS about Grayrocks and they weren’t sure about depth or ramps but did say fishing has been awful. Locals are having trouble getting bit on any technique even when marking.
Here is catch of the day @ 27”

For Bass, really wouldn't go to either. But if you have to, go to Grey Rocks!
