Lake: Twin Lakes

Twin Lakes in the Fall..

Post By: TELE-CASTER      Posted: 8/25/2024 9:40:57 PM     Points: 4301
I haven't been to Leadville/ Twin Lakes for many years, but I do remember catching some decent trout from the bank. I'm thinking about taking a camping trip up there this fall, but this time will be with a travel trailer. I'm just hoping for any info on preferred campsites or any rules/regs I need to be aware of, etc... Any Info and fishing tips for Early October/ late Sept. are also greatly appreciated.

There are several campgrounds above Twin Lakes and further up the pass. Research will tell you which are still open still, depending on your dates. Also some free campsites on CR 24.

Trout fishing can be fabulous, but Twin Lakes rainbows are generally under 13". Lake Trout will be getting shallow in October as the water cools. My best action has been on the really cold mornings for mackinaw. The scenery should be fabulous, since it won't be crowded at all! Have a blast.

not sure how it affected the lakes or campsites but remember that huge Interlaken fire was there last year [log in for link]

I appreciate everyone's info, but it seems our trip has changed to Tarryall to accommodate travel restrictions.

The fire didn't do too much damage.

They stocked several thousand fry recently as well.
