Lake: Eleven Mile Reservoir

Road conditions.

Post By: Jroney      Posted: 8/2/2024 6:28:23 AM     Points: 153
Hello everyone, I’m just wondering how the road conditions are on CR59? Considering heading up that way this weekend with my boat but don’t want to shake everything loose if 59 is in it’s normal washboard condition. I’m coming from Canon City and will take the alternate route thru springs if I have to but would rather not add an extra 45 minutes to my trip but I will if it’ll save my boat from being banged up. Thank you in advance for any info on this.

I hit it yesterday am from 6-11. The road from the fire station in Lake George is BAD. The potholes on the first 5-6 miles are deeper and bigger than ever and they tore up final 5-6 mi. It is dirt and had sections of deep washboard action. Rattled my teeth a few times. I would go around that entrance. I fished at the Marina area and saw several monster pike rising aggressively. Take them all home folks!!! Very slow action as I tried everything on my bubble setup. The water was wet. The water was lukewarm. Didnt get bit by any bugs --as I used the vanilla extract/water potion on any exposed skin. Oh ya--the lake is full too. Hopefully they pave it soon through there. Good luck.

Thank you for the update. I’d actually be coming in from the Guffey side. CR102-CR59 that’s my normal route from where I live but sounds like from your comment, either route I take is going to be rough. Bummer, want to get the boat up there. Before we know it it’ll be ice season.

Hwy 90 and 92 are gravel covered most of the way now and have wash boarded. May well be a little longer on gravel from junction of Hwy 102 and Hwy 59 to 11 Mile, but traffic on Hwy 90 and 92 as well as Hwy 24 may make the extra miles of gravel worth it IMO.

From Spinney to 11 mile is road base and not bad at all.. 11 mile to Lake George is a dusty washboard mess as Sir Greg said. Why not just fill potholes on that stretch.and leave it paved. Park county doesn't have a clue.

I had an appointment in that crazy town of Guffy a few years back and used it as an excuse to write off a fishing trip. The deep washboard action when coming in that way caused me to just creep my way around the reservoir----which is hard to do when you have buck fever!! I thought I would never get there!

Thanks for all the input. I travel there a couple times a week during ice season but obviously pulling a boat is a different story. Was hoping they’d pave 59 down to the asphalt at CR102 but that’s just wishful thinking. I may give it a go and just take it slow or stay on hwy 9 for a bit and give Spinney a try

I’m not asking for perfection by any means but I think they could do better maintaining on the gravel if you ask me. The mile would get a lot more visitors.

Went up that way a couple weeks ago and was surprised that they redid the roads going to 11 mile from the guffey side they were the smoothest I've ever seen, I was very surprised they did a great job and no more washboards on this side from guffy , and why would you go all the way to Colorado springs and up when you can go to hartzel and down that way

Good morning, made the trip Saturday. Took the chance on my normal route thru Guffey and cR59. Honestly the roads weren’t bad. Spotty washboard, worst area was the last mile before Witchers. Trolled from 6-2, caught several trout and 1 salmon. Weed patches showing up in quite a few places but still had a good time.

@spawnbags I have 0 knowledge of any road condition besides the way I take 100% of the time. Thru Hartzel was another big ? for me. I only considered the springs route because I know 90% of boaters use that route and with the amount of them out there I assumed that way couldn’t have been that bad.

I was at 11 mile Friday. The road from Hwy 24 (Fire Station) is straight trash! I will be taking the Spinney way in from now on.

While fishing Friday, saw a bunch of TROUT rising. Just as SirGreg mentioned, Take them all home folks!

That reads--TAKE ALL THE PIKE HOME!! Not trout. HAHA.

Yes, I know!

That SHOULD read… take the Trout, leave the Pike!

Spinney Saturday was beautiful! Some of the best weather I’ve had there. 20+ Pike, mostly hammer handles, but several mid 20’s. A few real nice Trout too, this Brown was 25” and ate a baby Pike lure lol!

The 2 species eat each other! The Pike have been there since the beginning, no need to kill them off. Plus, they’re the only thing eating the Perch!

Spinney hasn’t been slow for me this year.

Sweet!! One of the few who had a banner day in SP or NP this year. People gonna envy!! Nice club to be in! Are you hiding from the FBI with your face smudged in that pic??

Nice fish, River_Flyfisher, congrats. Were you trolling or casting lures? Also, did you try any fly patterns? E.g., hoppers, nymphs, chiros?

Drove down to DIA yesterday, it’s amazing the poor condition of roads in the State of Colorado.
This is what happens when tax dollars go to thousands of people from all over the world instead of paying for improvements for people who live here.

We are turning into kalifornia!

Keep in mind that a lot of these roads are County Roads and up to the County for upkeep not the State. Some County's don't have a ton of money or so they say.

Well as of today 8/29 the road from the Lake George fire station is well graded and sprayed down. That will change with precipitation. Good shape today but didn't do worth a crap fishing!
