More Weird Crappie Jig Catches

Post By: Barnacles      Posted: 4/29/2024 12:13:33 PM     Points: 4991
Every year, I winter my boat in East Texas. Last week I went to get it and fish my way home. Mainly trying for the end of the crappie spawn, but ran into some unusual stuff one day. First one is a blue cat - note the bead of slime running up the line. Next one is a freshwater drum. Both were an awesome fight on ultralight. I cooked one of the drum at camp one night. Tasted like an old dirty sock.

We dined at Underwoods Friday. Smuggled some cobbler out for you, but then I ate it.

Nothing like a suprise catch on light gear! How was the crappie bite?

When I was a kid living in Ohio we used to catch drum in Lake Erie, only we called them Sheepshead. They were considered trash fish and yes they were not good to eat, mostly very fishy strong oily taste. They did fight ok but when you caught one it was a disappointment.

Pretty tough bite on the crappie TB. I think we missed the spawn by about a week down there. Got about 20 in one spot, but couldn't find em after that.

Sorry Jim. Had to do something to get the drum taste out of my mouth.
