Are there any big fish yet ?

I was wondering if there's any decent fish after the lake got drained during the drought of 2022. I always do good for nice brookies up there and even caught a couple of what I think were cutthroat. I had something snap a 5# line like it didn't even have to try.

My guess is those big fish you had were splake... doesn't seem like there are any big brookies up that way anymore tho. Not yet, anyway.

I thought they were brookies with all that color but looking at the tails I think splake.

Agree on the tail…splake.

No big fish, just 8". They have stocked it with splake. It was drained around 2020

Sorry for the late reply but yes, CP&W killed off the remaining brookies last year and they said that they were going to transplant splake. The top pic is a beautiful brookie, the tiny ones below show the more pronounced forked tail of a splake.
IMO, this is a terrible mistake to kill off really healthy brookies that were surviving the drawdowns, year after year and coming after previous attempts to transplant splake and rainbows failed in the 80s and 90s. I predict these new splake will be gone in a few seasons unless they have no drawdowns.

Mojo-that brookie has nice coloring. He'll be a good looking fish when he gets bigger. Lefthand is a good healthy lake so hopefully 2 or 3 years and it will have big fish again. I want to avoid I-70 construction but I guess I'll have to go even furthur north for some decent fish.
