PB or no?

So I hooked what I hoped was a world record Walleye, but when I got it to the shore I realized I had foul hooked a Common Carp in the tail. It was a wild fight, took me 20+ mins to get it in and was fun as hell even though it was foul hooked. It was 33" and too heavy for my crappy scale, but would have been a master angler.

So question is, do you still consider a foul hooked fish as a PB even though it wasn't "legally" caught? Just curious how others would view it.

Great catch! Carp are a lot of fun when you hook into them, foul hooked or not. If you are somebody who does target carp occasionally, I wouldn't count it as a PB, but if you accidentally catch a couple over time, there is nothing wrong with counting that as a personal best. Congrats again!

I think I used a 12 gauge on my PB, so I can't judge your tactics.
That had to be a serious battle hooking one of those in the tail & certainly worthy of celebration.

Yea it would be your call on it being a personal best or not. The foulhooking of carp happens a few times a year for me when I am jigging for spring walleye at Sanchez Reservoir. Inevitably a carp will be in the way of your jig and the fight is on. Sometimes I land them and sometimes they release and I find the hook with a distinct large scale of a carp on it. Sometimes trhey are hooked near the mouth, and in that case, It would be hard to argue it wasn't actually biting the jig.

I would say yes. Unintentional snag and the fight qualifies the catch as valid for me. No PB if the hook was intentional though.
