INSANE BITE - Master Angler Splake

Post By: Bennyb SST      Posted: 1/5/2023 2:28:28 PM     Points: 428
INSANE BITE yesterday at Antero Reservoir! With a Master Angler Splake, Huge Rainbow, Multiple Kyped up Cutbows, and a Brown I’d say we got the South Park Slam. Ice Conditions were solid on the south-shore and the wind was crazy off/on throughout the day! If you are interested to see the action here is the episode [log in for link]

Great video of some nice fish, congrats on your success. That splake was really colorful and sure looked like it could be a brookie but I know it's hard to tell for sure, nice fish either way.

Thank you for sharing, good to see the activity at Antero, with Spinney being close to empty Antero will be very popular this season.

I ‘m posting this picture of a Brookie and a Splake from Antero, (This day I had seven species at the lake) First and only time that ever happened to me.

The easiest way normally to tell the difference is the tail, Brookie is square and Splake is slightly “V” shaped.

Happy New Year from sunny Flori-duh

Thank you all! Here’s a few more pictures from the day. I use a variety of different rods to answer one of your questions. Two of them are made by Shimano. Two of them are made by clam. And two of them are made by Fenwick. We were pretty stoked on thiS Splake. He was an absolute Stud and it was nice to see him swim away! We have caught brookies in this res before as well. Tyler Is a ranch hand. And I own a business. We both have a good amount of time for fishing 🎣 thanks guys. Hope I answered everyone

Ya, looking at Bill’s picture that really looks like a brook to me, tho it is a little hard to see the tail in the first pic. Amazing fish tho regardless… gotta love a good brookie/laker/splake debate.

You catch more large trout in one year than most people do in a lifetime :). Nice.

Nice Fish! The debate here got me interested & here is a link that may help: [log in for link]
The vermiculation near the dorsal fin is a key tp solving this puzzle, as is the spotting on the gill plate. Awesome fish what ever the verdict is & I will leave that to the jury to decide.

Great catches! I say splake... at 8:56 on the video you get a good view of the tail as its going in the hole.
