This was my last fishing trip of 2022 and was 2 days in Oct. First fish you see is exactly 3lbs and the second is 4.2 pounds. The rest? Well, the title says it all. When the fall bite starts you simply have to be on the water. It’s been my observation that during most periods of time over the year, you have to be fishing at a specific time of day. During this time of year… you literally have to be on the water to discover when that time is as it doesn’t seem to follow a pattern, except when it turns on.. it turns on.

Hope you enjoy the vid [log in for link]

Mercy. I'm just now dusting off my ice junk, but that got me in the mood for some open water.

Thats part of what makes being on the water very early, very late or just whenever the weather does something unique. God only knows what makes most every fish in the lake suddenly decide to chow down. Only they can hear that dinner bell ring. No man can explain it.

Those were some nice fish! When I use a spinning rod, tube jigs are one of my favorite lures for trout! You can cover quite a bit of the water column with them and they seem to draw the bigguns in!

thanks again Brian and Jerry. Ain't gonna lie, they put up enough of a fight my wrists and forearms got a good workout.

troutbisquits - I actually have a very specific technique for the tube jig in the fall!

AWB, you know me I b fly fishing. I guess I use jigs, well jig hooks anyway. I didn’t get the invite this year to join you. I’ve got some new stuff to try. However I need some soft water to apply them. I’m pretty confident in my bugs and #5ers.. Nice fish buddy!! We need to get out this year. I’ve even made a Callibeatis nymph on a jig hook

This was one of the last fish I caught thru the open water. I didn't want to ice fish 1st ice by myself, so I fished the river for 4 hours. I caught 5. But this was my best of the entire day/fall. This was around Thanksgiving.
