A bright bluebird day that turned gnarly late on 12/7. Most of the surface I could see fishing at the north shore looked frozen and was topped with two inches of snow, except for a football field size patch of open water west of the north boat ramp. A strip of puddled ice along the shoreline, also in that area, appeared unsafe.
The wife and I fished two different locations at the north shore, from 11:30 to 3:30. The ice was 8 inches thick everywhere I drilled. There was a light breeze and decent temps until late, so we did not use a hut.
We saw 5 other small groups, also fishing the north shore east of the boat ramp. We could see some huts across the lake near the south shore. We had just one bite, a fish on a deadstick that broke off at 3:25. I saw a man and woman nearby lose two nice fish, at 1:30 and 2:00.
One common feature where I saw fish hooked was areas of 10 feet of water, with weeds topping out at 5 feet below the ice. Active jigging didn't work for us. The hook setter set up was a small jig and butter worm brushing the top of the weed bed. The areas of weeds were roughly 150 feet from shore. We drove off at 4:00 as a snow storm was building.
