I am wanting to ice fish Boyd Lake when the weather allows. I have never fished it before. What area of the Lake do people usually fish? Marina? Also, is there a bait shop near the lake? Looking for minnows.
Iíve only ice fished there once. I had no idea what I was doing at the time. From the past info from here marina area is usually one of the first ice stops there. Usually freezes first. I donít believe youíre allowed to be on the docks if I remember correctly. Others will probably chime in on that.
Jax or sportsmenís may have bait. Not sure if they carry minners though
As already stated, the Marina is typically the first area to have safe ice, and it does get hit hard by anglers. As the ice thickens, anglers spread out across the entire lake. Boyd does have a good mix of species - common catches include stocked trout, bluegills, yellow perch, walleyes, white bass, and channel catfish. Both of the Loveland Jax stores carry minnows, wax worms, and meal worms, and have all you need for ice fishing tackle, huts, heaters, rods and reels. Good luck this winter! Pictured is a nice channel cat I caught at Boyd last year:)
