Tarryall coming up weekend

Post By: Alex31      Posted: 11/15/2022 12:51:26 PM     Points: 17
Hi, Planning to go up on Saturday and was wondering if anyone near by can provide an update on conditions. Is there ice by now with the cold weather we are having? Open Water? Trying to avoided unsafe ice.
Thank you!

I’m following this as well. Does anyone know if the “near-shore” ice cap has formed along the west side yet? Even a small shelf would work!

i saw pictures showing skim ice days ago (maybe even a week ago?)..i bet thered be fishable ice saturday with that said.....

TAKE A SPUD BAR and know how to use it, and dont go alone, IMO though all ice is unsafe in the month of november unless youre up at 11k+, many will always tell you no ice is ever safe

good luck

I believe no ice is ever 100% safe as there are a number of things to watch out for. Inlets and moving water can erode the ice to a very thin layer even if the rest of the lake is a foot or more thick. Pressure ridges are never to be trusted. I saw a guy fall thru 20" of ice when he jumped over a pressure ridge at Antero Res. Rocks linning the shore can heat up during the day and melt the ice where you get off at the end of the day. So be aware of these and others that may be waiting to spoil your day and you can still have a good time with a little knowlidge and common sense.

We got there Saturday afternoon, saw maybe 7 people and 2 tents out on the lake, ice had some cracks and didn’t we just didn’t feel safe to go out, so we drove to 11 mile hoping to find some open water, our spot had some thin ice there as well, so we didn’t get to fish. Will wait a week or more, depending on weather and will then go out when we feel safer. Thanks

Fished Tarryall today. Southwest side. Found about 8 plus inches of ice. 3 people fishing SW side, more on east side. Maybe 10 folks. Fishing for me was a little slow. Marking fish and lots of bits though.
