Fish: Cutthroat Trout

Footage of my last Alpine lake trip of open water this year

Finally got around to sitting down and editing a video. This footage is from almost exactly a month ago but it was my last Alpine trip of the year. We had planned on catching lake trout on dry flies, but the fishing on that lake was extremely slow so we moved to fish a different lake and some really unique tarns along the way. [log in for link]

Thanks for sharing. Did not get to this area this year, as had crossed my mind. My only visit was a few years back (2019 per my report) and it was extremely windy. Spent very little time at the cutthroat lake, and just enough time at the laker lake to get one on a dry. The wind picked up even more that day, and was literally pushing me up the mountain at times on the hike out. I want to go back and spend more time there.

Cool vid! I rode my mountain bike up there (then hiked) and fished all those about 1 month ago also. Those tarns are really neat. Tricky to fish because they are so shallow, but the fish in them are hungry. Lake trout was so skinny but awesome!

Banzai Jimmy, I really enjoyed the area and will be back for sure! Thankfully it was a very calm day when I was there but I have had the crazy wind kick me off a couple other mountain lakes before.

Eholm that is awesome, mountain bike is a great idea for getting up there . I drove up as far as I felt comfortable in my Volvo XC90 but that road is gnarly. Glad I stopped at a dispersed site and hiked the rest of the way.
