RIP Daris

Post By: phidoux      Posted: 10/14/2022 5:14:45 PM     Points: 8217
Uncle Marty called me and said that Daris McKinnon passed away last night or this morning. Not much info as of now but I'll keep updating as I get information.
He was a mentor to myself as well as many in the catfishing ranks and will be missed.

That is so sad to hear Ray. My prayers go out to his family and close friends. He will be greatly missed by all of us.

What a shock, I met him a couple of times out fishing and he was such a nice guy. He freely gave out information on catfishing and he did know what he was talking about as evidenced by the numerous pictures he posted on this site. He will be missed by those who knew him well and the rest of us here at FX.

Truly hideous news, Daris was an amazing person and a friend. His loss is sickening. My thoughts and prayers to his family. For once, words fail me at this time.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I recall his posts from when I was active years ago. He was a guy that I specifically remember being very generous with information, even as he was chasing the state record. Clearly he was a great fisherman and human.

I met Daris only one time on the water over 5 years ago right before spring. I caught a bruiser of a “ditch pickle” and he took some photos for me while I was in my float tube so a memorable moment. We chatted for quite a while after as it was getting to be dark and he was obviously a character by the stories he shared. It was also obvious he loved to fish anywhere and anytime - how many are chasing catfish in 49 degree water!

Tight lines and only MA cats or better on the other side Fishrangler!

I had just got calls from Rob O Fish, and FOM to let me know of our loss of Daris. What a shock, Daris and I were making plans for He and "Uncle Marty" to come here to Tennessee and go Cat fishing on my nearby Lake Chickamauga. And bunk in my RV here at my farm. No doubt he has already cast a line in the Fishing Heaven waters. And by the time I get there he will have no doubt blown my cover :-) I am now doing a special prayer for Daris's son and family. RIP Buddy, I will cherish the last photo he sent me.

Very sad news. I first met Daris after the colorado kitty derby years ago and found him to be a font of knowledge. Greatly enjoyed targeting cats with him and Uncle Milty. He will be greatly missed.

The absence of his posts in recent years made me think something had happened to him. It's now sad knowing he won't be making any of his informative and humorous posts in the future. Like Anglerwannabe, I'll always fondly remember the 'Ditch Pickles' comment.

Thank you Daris for sharing some of your time on this planet with FishExplorer and its members.
