Fishing at Wright's Reservoir in Florissant

Post By: mckinzie      Posted: 10/6/2022 11:18:38 AM     Points: 14
I won a trip to fish this private fishing club lake for two days this weekend. Has anyone fished this reservoir before? Any suggestions? The lake owner said there are big brook trout in there but did not give any suggestions on how to catch them. I have caught many rainbows, browns, cutties, but never a brook trout. Any suggestions? He said we could keep one or two fish to eat, so we are going to cook up a few trout, Any suggestions on cooking brookies while camping?

I drool over that lake every time I drive through there. Don't know anyone that's fished it. If you've caught rainbows, browns, cutties, you shouldn't have trouble catching brookies with the same tactics.

Look at SirGreg's post from a few days ago about grasshoppers. Can't think of a better way to start out. Private water is a different game though, you might catch them on hot dogs.

As for cooking, I like to keep it simple with a fresh brookie - skin on, sauteed in butter, lightly rubbed with salt n pepper ---- or same thing wrapped in foil over the campfire. A little lemon juice is a nice touch too.

Last thing on brookies - they spawn in the fall. If there's a creek running into that lake, the inlet might be a good place to start.
