Lake: Estes Lake

Ice fishing (yes again!)

Sorry I know there are multiple posts but I couldn't figure out how to reply to them!

Seems like the general consensus is that ice fishing is NOT permitted on Lake Estes however on the visit Estes Park website it appears that ice fishing is allowed, the restriction is that only hand augers are permitted.

Verbiage below, let me know if I should give it a go this winter!

"the fish bite year-round, with the main fishing season running Memorial Day through Labor Day, sometimes into mid-October. Sections of the Big Thompson run free in the winter and the east end of Lake Estes near the power plant remains ice-free during winter. Ice fishing is allowed on all open-fishing lakes and ponds in Rocky Mountain National Park hand-augers are required. Plus, fly hatches occur into January and February."

"Ice fishing is allowed on all open-fishing lakes and ponds in Rocky Mountain National Park" -- I don't fish Lake Estes much but I don't believe lake Estes is inside the national park ?

Lake Estes is definitely not in the national park.

So is an electric drill auger conversion allowed? My guess would be yes because they are worried about fuel spilling into the lake and the noise. But they might not want the drills either. Interesting reg.

Ice fishing is NOT allowed on Lake Estes or Mary's Lake.

"not allowed in RMP"
Lake Estes is NOT in RMP.
You need to read more carefully.

As per RMNP regulations, “mechanical equipment” is not allowed in any wilderness area, so a drill-powered auger would not be allowed. Hand augers only.

Apart from that, Lake Estes and mary's lake don't every fully freeze over. Which I'm sure if part of why they don't allow it.
