Lake: Antero Reservoir

Antero Stocking 5/6/22

Post By: MOJO      Posted: 5/6/2022 5:52:24 PM     Points: 506
Had the chance to observe stocking operations at Antero Res on Thursday. They were putting in Tiger, Splake and Brown trout by way of boat in the middle of the reservoir, to avoid being munched by pelicans.

That's awesome! The pelicans sure love the trout stockings!

One of the officers mentioned that they have put in splake in past years but I've never caught one there myself. It'll be interesting to see how big they get, as well as the tigers.

Mojo, I caught a 15" splake at Antero 2 years ago. Don't know how big they normally get, so far that's my pb.

One interesting observation for Splake... I'm the lake skipper for Lefthand Res and along with brookies transplanted decades ago, they had put in Rainbows and Splake. With each yearly drawdown and the two full drains for dam repairs since the 80s, to this day, the only thing that survived was the brookies. I would like to think the newer hybrids will grow as well as Antero's Cuttbows, but we'll see. Those have been a great success, IMO.
