Lake: Mountain Home Reservoir

Scant Ice but Fishable

Post By: johnski      Posted: 1/17/2022 3:24:37 PM     Points: 3229
So normally this time of year we have 18 to 20 inches of ice at Mountain Home. This year, a scant cover of 6 inches. For a change I fished the north side of the lake. It had 6 inches, but the shoreline shows where it has thawed recently, creating that slick glare ice. Bite was fair and caught dinner for tonite. Enjoyed the chat with Greg out there as well, braving the north end. Tight lines amigos. And be careful just the same with these mild weather conditions.

Great to start seeing some ice reports down south. Starting to get a few options at least above 8000'. Sure is strange out there in short sleeves this year.

Went out on the 17th and 18th. Had a really nice chat with Johnski about the lake and other spots in the area. I brought home 3 average sized trout caught on jigs. Yesterday afternoon was pretty good. One 10" bow on the first drop, missed a few more and then a nice fat 16" in about 15 ft of water. The weather was so nice, I didn't even bring out the hut!

It was really nice meeting you Johnski, hopefully we run into each other again out there, and good luck in ND!!!

Hey Pilot...very nice to meet you as well. You caught some of the bigger ones in there. Nice going. May try it tomorrow but not 100 percent sure. Stay well!
