Too bad he has to kill it to get credit for the state record. They should give out medals for releasing one like that.

Hey. Good for him. He knows what he caught, that's all that matters!

Rainbow trout only live 6-8 yrs----give or take. Don't feel too bad when you keep a monsta. They don't reproduce naturally for the most part either............. Great fish!!!!!

Verified age of a Rainbow is 11 years! Who’s to say they can’t live longer than that?
Congrats for the C & R.

They can live up to 11 years but its extremely rare. That fish didn't have a lot of time left. Whats a couple years among friends?

Incredible
Just incredible.
Those of us that have caught large fish get an adrenaline rush just seeing a picture of a fish like that.
Cudos on the release.

as far as how long rainbows live it really depends on which strain of rainbow it it is.

I saw this yesterday. That's like an hour and a half from my mom's house. I've never caught something like that when I'm there 🙄. I'm equally as impressed with him for releasing it as I am with the fish. Good for him. He has pictures, memories and a story. For some That's enough.

That fish was caught 30 miles from where I grew up. I fished the river as a kid. I remember seeing salmon so thick you could walk on em. The Feather and the Yuba rivers fish pretty well. The confluence of the 2 is in my home town. That’s a amazing fish…
