Fish: Cutthroat Trout

Hiking in for big Cuttys. It's Winter at 11k

Finally got out onto a multi-mile hike for the first time this year with my GF and my buddy...The mission was big cutthroat trout and to enjoy the sites of winter in the high alpine😀

It was a cool 34 degrees out but luckily not a lot of wind! The hike was a bit rough but it was comfortable with the cold weather. We got to the lake and had a fun time throwing a wide variety of lures and soft plastics, with the HD Trout Ghost Cutthroat pattern doing the best. We had bites on some weighted nymphs and small swimbaits but nothing landed.

As the day progressed, we started dropping out of the water like flies with cramps and numb feet being the culprits. I lasted in the water for about half the day but literally had no feeling in my feet when I got out, the hike out was good for warming back up though haha...The fish made things warmer of course too...I kept two that had blood red meat and tasted outstanding (no pics of dinner😣)

Overall though a great time up around 11K enjoying winter open water...Won't be lasting too much longer though I would assume. During the hike I got some drone shots of the area as well, hope you all enjoy😀

Im feeling some hero worship................ I lucked out and snuck up to the Skunk Mile today. The parking lot was vacant. I was the only guy in the area. Even with no boats or competition I didn't even get a bite. Tried everything including the one thing that always works-as a last resort--inflated crawler. Nope!!!

You are inspirational to old farts like me. Back in the day I would go ice fishing all night up there alone with no shelter---crazy things like that. Now----------not so much!!

Epic! I gave up alpines for the rest of the year but glad you are still getting out there and harassing them! I bet the bite was incredible considering the time left before ice!

Haha thanks man! It was good to finally get a hike in...The dark timber being covered was a bit sketchy but we moved slow and had a great time😀 It was a pretty solid bite overall...the end of the day, the bite died but happens up there in a lot of lakes it seems.
