Fish: Colorado River Cutthroat

Colorado River Cutthroat

So I recently took my first summertime hike up to a high alpine lake in search of native Colorado River Cutthroat. To say the least, I loved it so much that I immediately went right back to take on my first backpacking trip! 😂💪 I absolutely fell in love with the place!! 4 miles up, non stop native trout action, 4 miles back, and I embraced every single second of it! The beauty of the nature, the wildlife, the crisp mountain aroma, the crystal clear glacial water, what more could a soul ask for? Basking in the solitude of being so far from civilization, and not a care in the world, one could get lost and never care to return!! Here’s a link to the video I made of the trip! I hope you all enjoy! Stay safe!! [log in for link]

Great pics and great stuff! I too am addicted to alpine trout! These beauties came out of the James Peak Wilderness and Indian Peaks Wilderness. This weekend I am hitting up James Peak Lake, Little Echo Lake, and Iceberg Lakes. Tight lines homie!

If you do more of it I highly recommend trying some fly fishing in addition to spin fishing. Sometimes one or the other is more effective in those high lakes, and sure you can always do good ol fly and bubble, but fly fishing is a blast. I usually bring my one fly rod and one spinning rod when I do those hikes, and there has been times when all they would take is flies, and others when something like a kastmaster fished deep was the ticket. Always good to have more tools in the tool box if you know what I mean.
