Fish: Brown Trout

Cool mornings and warm afternoons

My favorite time of the year. Reached in the jar of a hundred places to go and pulled out the name of a river on the west slope. It didnít disappoint. Fat, chunky browns are on the move. They took a size 16 gunslinger pretty readily.

Rainbows were looking up. Size 16 parachute Adams with an emerger dropper, gave me plenty of surface action in the foam line.

I didnít realize it at the time, but reflecting back on the dayís fish, which included a cuttbow and a slew of whitefish gave me a grand slam of sorts.

Fly fishing was good enough that I didnít even use the spinning rod that I brought with me this trip. And itís just beginning. The next couple of months should provide a lot of fond memories.

Awesome fish. I miss fishing that river in town on my lunch breaks. I will definitely fish next week when I'm up hunting. Little Rainbow warriors always did good for me this time of year.

Thanks for the pics and info. I FINALLY got up to my fave lake Thur night and Friday. First time I didnt break a sweat in months!! Felt so good.. The aspen trees were just turning a lighter shade of green--no real color yet......Fishing, football and the smell of roasting green chilis!!! This is definitely the best time of year!!!!!!!

Excellent fish, Lance. I wish that crick was a little closer, would be there a lot. You always seem to figure it out. Well done.

Thanks Guys. Hey Jerry... I'm taking a group of Rocky Top teachers to the Green River for a Thursday, Friday, Saturday trip, the last weekend of October. If you are free and not helping your grandkids get their deer, love to see you again. Or some other weekend up there with you.

Thanks for the invitation Lance. I am taking Mason out at that weekend to hunt for his cow elk and my buck. And Becky n I off to Vermont for 9 days for leaf looking 6-15 October before that. Hopefully I can make it around Vets Day.
