Catfish question

Post By: spicyhombre      Posted: 8/25/2021 11:36:26 PM     Points: 6461
I have a question for the Catfish folks. I want to target cats from boat at night In an area of a lake that has lots of gravel pits. I suspect the fish retreat into the depths (20-35ft) during the day but imagine they come up onto the upper flats (10-14ft) between pits to feed at night.

Would you put your baits on top of these flats between pits at night? If not, where? Shoreline shallows?

I plan to use fresh bluegill cut bait.

At night, I've probably done better near shore or close to the surface. I could be completely wrong & it depends on the lake and what they eat, but where I fish 10-14 is too deep for night fishing. I would think those flats/pits you describe would be good all day.

Fresh bluegill is an excellent choice. I could go for a chunk of that right now.
