Lake: Horsetooth Reservoir

Watch out at horsetooth

Copied from Chad LaChance FB page.

Horsetooth Reservoir goers...watch your step! Again late yesterday I had a very close encounter with a full grown rattlesnake while walking the shoreline. This snake surprised me even though I was on the look-out for them. That's three rattlers in the last 10 days, all while walking around popular areas for shoreline recreation. Afternoons and early evening seems to be the most active time for them. Between the 2020 and 2021 summer seasons thus far, I've seen more than 20 of them here and my dog has been bit twice in the last 22 months! 😳

A few of us geeks on here will go there just to see the snakes. Too bad the season is closed. Chicken fried snake is a fine meal.

I lived in the foothills of Loveland for 45 years. I have seen lots of Rattlers, never been bit. They are not aggressive but defensive. I put them in a bucket and get them away from the house. I would not let a dog run loose here. They are not smart enough to know the danger to them.

In the 60s my father was a surveyor in the Red Rocks Green Mountain area.
He brought home a 5 footer ,skinned it put it in the oven. It was just like roast beef. I recommend it if your of the persuasion.

Lots of rattlesnakes out basking on the dirt roads from eastern El Paso through Otero counties.

Rattlesnakes get my respect but I don't think about them much even though they are around my home in the foothills. I can see rattlesnakes but not COVID 19 which concerns me a lot more.
