Fish: Largemouth Bass

Vertical Structure

Post By: Team CO.F.F.      Posted: 7/22/2021 5:22:32 PM     Points: 174
Went out this past weekend on the float tube to target some Bluegill and Largemouth Bass. I wound up fishing some vertical structure for the entirety of my time there (4 hours) and had some good success.

Used several different weight sizes of mushroom heads for the Ned rig. From 1/8oz to 1/20oz, with a 3" craw softplastic and two different patterns of the rattlin ned from googan baits. I also caught one on a 1/4oz shakey head with a 5 1/2 inch worm. I also tried throwing some moving baits of various sizes and patterns but didn't have any success with that.

After it reached about 12:30, it got REALLY toasty and I got out of there and sat inside the rest of the day. Hope you guys enjoy the video if you get time!

Nice job! Ive fished that location since 2013 and I think Ive only caught one 18+ fish on that spot you were fishing? That Reservoir has suffered since the drought in 2018. Ive caught lots of 18+ Largemouth prior to 2018 but have struggled since then! Even the 10+ bluegills have become scarce! I hope it rebounds soon! Might want to stick to the upper for 3+ lb fish? 🎣🍻👊

Another good one. Nothing tougher than a blue bird day in the summer with clear water like that. I try to fish a different lake every week. When I see structure like that, it's the first place I go.

For your plastics question, my favorite this year has been a Zoom Li'l Critter Craw.... Pumpkinseed for clear water. For the 'gills I like the Big Bite Baits curly tails.

Looking forward to your next one... Thanks

Good on ya for braving the heat - not even a breeze. You reminded me why I like ice fishing so much.

I've heard similar stories about that place. I will probably try another trip to the West side of the lake but ya haven't ever caught anything big over there. Seems the east side is the best for that. I have only fished the other reservoir once and that was before I even started my channel. I'll have to go try that out in the next week or two.

Glad you enjoyed!! It was a tough day for quality but at least a good time for quantity lol. Good to know about the soft plastics, i'll have to try them out next time i hit cabelas or sportsmans!

The heat is what made me check the time lol. It felt great most of the morning but by 12:30 it was getting a bit much, even in the water. LOL I was thinking about how awesome ice fishing is when I was walking in and out of there!!
