Buzz Bait Bass

Post By: Barnacles      Posted: 7/19/2021 9:29:51 AM     Points: 2297
Team CO.F.F and bharper sent me into a jealous rage in the last few weeks with the big bass pictures. I'm no bass expert,, but I went on an ego trip Sunday to see if I could catch some & join their CO Bassmaster club. Right before I got disgusted by the Sunday crowd, I decided to rip this oversized buzz bait through the flooded willows and cottonwoods. Had 5 violent strikes inside an hour. Nothing big, but good good fun.

Sweet! Good job! Love topwater! I actually caught my first topwater bass (15”) this year on Friday! I was using a 1/2 oz Black buzzbait with a black n blue horny toad trailer! Keep up the good work, you’ll get a biggin’! Over the years my best topwater bait has been a 130 Whopper Plopper in the Munky Butt pattern! It’s caught me three 4+ lb Largies! 🎣👊🍻

Thanks bharper. I'll have to try some of these new lures you guys are using. My bass box is stuck in the 1980's like my taste in music. - Hula Poppers, H&H, Hawaiian Wigglers, Jitterbugs, and Bushwhackers.

You've caught more buzzbait fish then I have lol. Topwater bass fishing is something I have done VERY LITTLE of, and only have a few catches in my life on frogs and poppers...so now I'm jealous of you! Good work out there, catching fish is what it's about👊🏽🎣

Baracles, if you have the original Hawaiian Wigglers, they are a collectors item. Does someone else besides Fres Arbogast make them?

That's the kind I have. The Arbogast. I always caught more fish on the original Lunker Lure though. I've been meaning to see what my Wigglers are worth. Still have some other leftovers from my Dad's tacklebox from the 60's that might be worth something too. Wish I had kept all of that stuff.

I had to look up the Horny Toad AWB. I'm buying a bag of those. That will be perfect for the big mats of moss that are starting to cover everything down south.

For Team CO.F.F, there's about a thousand browns in the mighty Arkansas swimming around with little red sores in their upper lip --- thanks to your inspiring videos. Glad I found a little niche where I can give back a little bit.

Man it’s hard to beat some top water action that’s for sure. One of my favorite ways of fishing. The explosions you get from buzz baits really get the blood pumping. Evening the little guys blow up on them like they’re monsters lol. Glad you got on some.

I remember I had an old frog for years. That thing caught hundreds of bass over the years. I had a favorite spot on a pond that was a flat right off from deep water. Every summer the weed line would form along the flat. I’d flip that frog right on the edge and boom they would just go crazy over it. One hell of a rush when the 4lber would torpedo through the weeds to eat that frog!!!

Thanks for sharing.

sorry I'm a little slow adding something. When I fished the Bass Pro aquarium they had a huge crappie and a 13 lb LMB and he said those 2 had never ever even looked at any of the stuff thrown into the aquarium as far as lures go. I got them both on the Ole Horny toad. They sold out of them that day.

While made for top water, I rig them on weighted Trokars in size 5\0 and 7\0. You can still use them on top rigged that way, just gotta get your speed up a little. But most effective for me is throwing them into a mess of green stuff and working them very much like a jig.
