Consistent koke lure?

Post By: dallsheep      Posted: 7/9/2021 9:54:37 AM     Points: 0
I've fished Blue Mesa several times this year and have yet to find anything that works well. My traditional go to lures from previous years are not producing. Was wondering if anybody has had success with a particular lure there this year. Been mainly fishing the irons.

By the way, the few that I have caught seem to have less gill lice this year...maybe wishful thinking.

The only way I've fished Blue Mesa for kokes is bumper boat jigging (and did not enjoy it), but my go to koke lure is always a pink hoochie to start, tipped with a gulp maggot. Then I work my way through the other hoochie colors and wedding rings.

Our most consistent lures have been spinners. Pretty across the board on colors and styles, but if it has a spinning blade on it, it works more consistently than squids or spoons or taz's or kok killers/etc.

And, we are also seeing a reduction in the gill lice prevalence as well. Some pods of salmon have 0 lice and the ones with them are minimal in number per fish.

GSOutfitters, that sounds like good news. Now if we can get some heavy snow this next winter that will be good also.

For me, trolling wedding rings is my go to. But for jigging I love GSO Agitator jigs!

Thanks for the info.

Good news on the gill lice...hope it's on the way out and yes, a good snowy winter to fill up the lake would be great.
