A Tribute to Dad

Post By: chodeman      Posted: 6/19/2021 10:12:03 PM     Points: 2913
As many of you know, I lost my favorite fishing partner this past January to Dad. So here is the thing, tomorrow is not only Father's Day, but it just so happens that is his birthday as well.

So the boat is ready, the gear is packed and tomorrow I am getting up early and headed to one of the most beautiful lakes that I have ever been at over 9500 feet.

Normally I'd have invited a friend or two, but for this trip I am taking a cooler full of snacks and sodas, Dad's old pole and a picture of him taped to the dash. Now if it is a tough day fishing, I know he must be looking down on me, because he'd want me to work for it.

Either way, tomorrow I get to fish with Dad again.

But I have one request for all of you? If you fish with your Dad today, take a picture and post it here.

Happy Fathers Day Everyone!

Love ya Dad!!

Sorry for your loss, but you’re doing it right by honoring your dad that way! Thanks for your post, and good fishing! Ski

I get a house full of screaming kids, grandkids, and in-laws today. Lost my Dad about 15 years ago & there's always something "somber" about this day to me. Taking to the high country alone sounds pretty darn appealing. Can't think of a better way to honor your Dad. I hope I'm remembered that way when I'm gone. First class post, chodeman.

Great post. I lost my Dad 3 years ago. He was my fishing partner for years, taught me how to fish, and instilled my love of fishing that I have today. We went to Blue Mesa as a family the last week of July the week after he passed. We were jigging for salmon and came upon a small school that we had to ourselves for a few minutes. As other boats started to join around, my kids and wife were absolutely slamming the salmon. I couldn't net them quick enough, as my family was wanting to get their lures back down as quickly as possible. No one else that came over hooked a fish, but we limited out. I still believe my Dad had something to do with that experience that day. I know he was smiling as my kids were reeling in fish after fish for 10 minutes. I didn't even attempt to put a lure down. My kids still say that Grandpa was with us that day. A memory I'll take to the grave.
