Fish: Largemouth Bass

MONSTER LMB.. or maybe not. lol

Post By: anglerwannabe      Posted: 6/19/2021 6:01:12 AM     Points: 65548
needed a break and headed to a nearby pond and proceeded to catch 20 of these GIANTS in about 30 mins. lol

Using my mini spin and a Jerry's Fly they were pretty easy pickens and provided some much needed entertainment. Got to see a couple of them swing and miss the lure only for them to turn around and hit it.

Sometimes it's good to just get out and unwind a bit

Jim, you're a beast! How did you manage so many MA awards in one day? Honestly pretty cool to get out and relax and even be a kid again for awhile.

Never heard of a Jerry's fly. That looks like it might be a good weapon for getting stubborn winter browns out of those deep holes in the river.

thanks Russ... These were so big and strong The Boss had to use a gaff and it barely looked like a pin prick! One almost pulled her into the pond but luckily we had her tethered down. lol Kidden aside, it was fun to just "catch" for a while and you're correct it was like being a kid again.. whether it was large or a keeper mattered not.

It's still true today.. the only thing different is instead of using split shots to rig them I use bullet weights. These wouldn't get your deep browns unless you rigged them like the way in the blog. They're so light they tend to stay in the top of the water column no matter how slow. One more thing.. The blades on these turn better than any blade on any other similar type lure that I've found. They are definitely trout slayers

awb, I heard that about just getting out and catching them. That's the attitude I find myself having more and more these days...getting out, enjoying a beautiful day, seeing an Osprey or something, catching some fish...maybe I've read too many Gierach books at this point lol.

Here's another interesting little story for anyone who hasn't heard of Jerry's flies. As an ex-Ohian, it's always cool to see these things getting some love outside of the tiny town of WV they come from. They definitely can catch some fish, neat concept. That's a really cool story about him including that note in your box and sent that fly your way. I believe he may have passed away recently

Tony - someone needs to catch these monsters.. might as well be me

Curtis - thank you

That's good fishing there Jim. Almost one fish per minute.
