Hey guys,

My Dad is fishing in South Dakota right now on the Missouri River and just caught this fish. They've fished there for 25+ years and have never caught anything but walleye, pike, perch, bass, and catfish. We are not really a trout fishing family but maybe this is a trout?? Can you guys help us identify for sure? I told him I know exactly where to go to get an definitive answer, haha!

Please go easy on me...I just want to make sure.

Thanks!!

I'll bite on anything to bury the Wolf Pups thread.
That looks like a standard Rainbow trout to me.
From the colors, I'd guess he's fresh out of the hatchery, or not feeling well in the heat wave. Might as well eat it. Here's a decent recipe for trout amandine:

Thanks GoNe_FiShIn_11, meant to mention that first in my recipe. Scrape off the slime first.
