Lake: Horsetooth Reservoir

Safe Zone?

It's really funny & absolutely a trash read about Larimer County and their idea of a now "safe zone" for paddleboarders at the Tooth. This will will eliminate the "near misses" with boaters. REALLY? Most all kayakers, paddleboarders, & boaters are responsible people & have respect for each other. Larimer County needs to patrol their lakes and cite all individuals on any watercraft for any unsafe acts. There is NO designated safe spot for non motorized watercraft at the lake! People have free run of the entire lake! HELLO! If they want to make it safe, then patrol the lake from opening 'til at least 10 p.m. We see no rangers out after 6 p.m. Why? Oh, lets blame all the boaters for the mishaps. And then we will continue on with our discussion to make Larimer County lakes accessible by resavation only? WOW! Can't wait to see who that benefits! LOL & Fish On Somewhere🐟🐟🐟

The north end of the lake has very limited parking and a smaller boat ramp than the south end. The south end has two large boat ramps and ample parking. Paddleboarding and kayaking are becoming more popular. So why in the world would you have these activities at the north end of the lake? I suggest that you all send your comments to the Larimer County Parks Advisory Board, or join the board itself. I did. [log in for link]

Paddle boards are a joke. They pay no fee and they have no boat inspection. More people drowning on paddle boards every year. At Chatfield they let these morons paddle in the powerboat and ski areas. Rangers say if you go near one it's a $100 dollar fine. They have taken over good fishing lakes and are gaining more popularity. Us boaters pay all the fees while these morons play for free.

I was up on Friday and when I went by there were zero people in the “safe zone”. There were probably in the neighborhood of 40 paddlers up on the north end. So they literally closed off access to boaters, mostly fishermen for no reason!
