I was hoping the warm weather recently would create some may-like conditions on the Big Thompson yesterday and it did. River was completely free of ice and snow for miles below the dam into the canyon. trout were seen and spooked everywhere and were spread out in the shallows and seams feeeding and not just stacked up in deep holes. Also saw a couple feeding frenzies on hatches. that canyon is pretty open in the sunshine so it's fishing like it's a month later in there. if you've been dying to get out, i would suggest the canyon up there. right below the dam was loaded with guys but there are plenty of more willing trout downstream and miles of water. I just used my usual set up of black foam ant with hare's ear dropper. got many hits on the ant when the sun came out but 2/3rds of action on the nymph dropper
