Fish: Black Crappie

Fly fishing for Crappie and Rainbow Trout

Post By: Troutbisquits      Posted: 3/27/2021 10:42:33 AM     Points: 1832
I went to a local pond right before some snow hit last Sunday. I did really well in two hours of fishing. Crappie are getting active in small ponds again! Hopefully the larger reservoirs turn on soon as well! I made a video if anyone is interested. Side note this will be my last video filmed with mainly a Hero 5. I have a Hero 9 in the mail. Audio and video quality going forward should be much improved!

Very well done on the video. That's a good looking fly. I might have to murder a few pine squirrels and make a few of those. Can't wait for the crappie to get shallow where I live.

Thanks for the video!
I always enjoy catching crappie with my flyrod.

Hey thanks Barnacles! It is an easy fly to tie. Basically a Mayer's mini jig leech. I like the chartreuse ostrich near the head for ponds with multiple species, because for whatever reason Panfish seem to love it. All black is my other favorite color and looks a little more natural.

Thanks rljb1! I love this time of year. I have quite a bit of confidence fly fishing for Crappie now up until end of May. Still doable after that but it gets tougher .
