Have the suckers started to do their “thang” in the river above chatty yet?

I stopped by looking for them today. Didn’t see any. It should happen soon.

I just referenced to one of my videos from last year near there. It was April 6th when we caught two 4lb suckers. My friends actually hit a swimbait and got caught and i caught my on a rebel trackdown brown trout jerkbait.

I also had a few by this time last year and so far none. Later ice may have slowed things down a bit for them. Just a guess.

Is this the time of year you all stock up on your sucker meat?

Worm on a jig head slow across the bottom usually gets it done. Or just a Carolina rig with a worm. During spawn the river is best and post spawn the south half the lake on the flats seem to be the best spots. My buddy Kent caught this one may 6 last year.

Suckers can give you a good tug for sure. I caught more than a few up at Granby a few years ago in A bay where the river comes in. Early open water. I've never caught one out of Chatty though....might be a hoot.

I know it should be "soon" but the weather lately has a lot of things on odd timers too.

We looked up an old picture on my girlfriend's phone from a hike along the river flowing into Chatfield on April 12th, 2018 adjacent to the ponds. The picture doesn't show the fish well, so I'm not posting it, but that was a date for reference. Hundreds were spawning in 4" to 12" of water. I don't know if they would feed under those circumstances, but they were there.
