Long Time No See!! Spring Trout and Pike

Post By: Team CO.F.F.      Posted: 3/23/2021 1:10:21 PM     Points: 315
Long time no post! Hope everyone has been well!!
Basketball is over and I'm gearing myself back into the fishing grind again...Loving it of course! It sucks I missed out on a lot of ice fishing action but happy to start fishing hard again with Spring rolling in.

We got out two days ago on the belly boats at Rifle Gap. The lake is still 3/4 frozen but a lot of that ice is just slush (you'll see in my video). This is one of my favorite times to target trout!

The water was cold but sweats, some wool socks, and neoprene waders helps with that tremendously. I tend to use smaller moving baits during this time as the trout are becoming more active for forage. 2" swimbaits to be exact...Caught 3 total fish in the short time out on the water. A small rainbow, a good size brown, and a tiny Northern Pike.

A storm rolled in and it blew us off the water after a few hours...Still great times though! Hope you guys enjoy the video!!

Pretty cool video (pun intended) nice brown trout. Won't be long before the water warms just a little and gets those fish turned on.

not too old to fish

Haha it was a bit chilly, especially when the wind picked up. We're looking forward to going after some Walleye and big Perch in there this year.

Haha Appreciate it man!! I was up in Dillon/Breck a few days ago and it seems like full on winter there. Guess it's just the area you live in. LOL I'll be back to posting more soon 😀😂🎣

Nice fish. I was fishing on shore April 05. No more slush. Boats were out. I caught a baby pike also. No trout action on shoreline. Water is beginning to rise but still low. Cant wait for warmer temps.

I only catch pike on small softbaits at that lake lol. Good to hear the report, interested to see how high it will get this year. The warmer weather seems to be coming quickly😀
