Lake: Tarryall Reservoir

Terribly over fished

Post By: hmudd13      Posted: 2/4/2021 2:26:21 PM     Points: 9
Usually fish Tarryall every couple of weeks or so.
I've noticed (since Covid) 200 to 400 people fishing every weekend.
I was out on 1/30/21 and spotted about 12 fish for the morning, landed 3 that looked like they were caught 5 times each.
Badly scarred and torn up.
On a side note, DOW was there confiscating bags of fish off of some guy a couple of weeks earlier.
Get a license people.

Never been a fan of treble hooks-even with the barbs pinched. A lot of people preaching to stay home for various reasons last March-were the ones who went out more often. Go figure. You have to go up high to avoid the zoo anymore. Oh well. I just dig being out on the water.............and the pudding pops you seeee.!

Weird... the other people on the lake were probably complaining that you were there.

More people are outside during covid. Write your local leaders and tell them to open the bars. Then people will go back inside ha!

Sadly that is very true Trailerman.

The summer time at Tarryall is about the worst lake to be at and much worse then winter. I've noticed in summer those folks out of state that hate the cold come back to Colorado to camp there. I've seen trash and fights left and right just fishing there for 30 minutes.

Pretty sure that is the story with the majority of the lakes in Colorado. Even without pandemic madness there are still around 80k people moving into Colorado each year. The population living in Loveland (the 15th most populated city in Colorado) is around 75k. Although dispersed throughout the state that is still a huge chunk of people moving every year into this state when you think about a city moving in every year.

This last summer was the worst I had seen there as far as crowds go. Three weeks ago there were something like 48 shelters on the ice. Definitely a byproduct of needing to get out and the over populating of the front range. Sure Jefferson would be less crowded on the ice, just a bit tough to get to me not owning a sled and all.
