Perch Slayfest

Post By: Team CO.F.F.      Posted: 1/19/2021 12:52:28 PM     Points: 291
It's been quite a while since I've fished Harvey Gap, lots of opportunities for a wide variety of species there but today I focused on Yellow Perch (I wanted a fish fry really bad).

Remy and I made a small grid to start the afternoon off and found some bouncing around 25-30FOW. Luckily a few hours in, a GIANT School of perch came into the area and didn't leave for the entire time we were there. Best thing was that we got a lot of eaters! Lots of stunted perch in Harvey so it was nice to get a lot of good ones. Over 40 caught between the two of us, biggest being a little over 9"!

Tungsten jigs 1/32-1/16oz and micro lures worked off and on but the biggest slayer of the perch was the Swedish Pimple, Glow and Green colors.
Hope you guys enjoy the video!!

I'm jealous man. I spent my first several years ice fishing for trout so when I go trying for something like Perch I get skunked. Good stuff like usual.

What time is dinner at your place? Those things are a bit of work to fillet but very tasty!!! Nice work!

Nice catch - looking forward to the fish broth video. I boil up the small ones for my chickens who love them. And no, it does not make the eggs taste fishy.

Yum. Good report. Wish I could find a place close to home to catch a bucket full of those.

We just got into ice fishing heavy last year, a big key is to keep moving until you find them. When I first started I would sit in one or two spots forever and then move. Now a days, IF nothing in about 5-7 minutes, I move.

Yessir! I used the smaller ones for a fish stock!

They are a pain, especially when you fishing partner has to leave before you start and you have to fillet all of them by yourself 😂😂 It was worth it in the end...We already had the fish fry and turned the small ones into a nice stock. I like making a seafood soup with rice noodles with the stock, it's delicious!!

Crazy! Didn't realize chickens even ate meat!! I'll try and get a good video of that broth process, I hate recording in my kitchen currently.

Well if you ever get the hankering, Harvey is overrun with perch! It's why I don't mind posting the name, you can catch buckets of them EVERYWHERE in the lake!
