Made a quick run to DeWeese yesterday. As expected, it was a little crowded on Sunday. Had to pick a very random spot where I could park & keep my distance. Ice is spooky clear crackly glass right on the north shore where the sun has been baking the rocks, but otherwise 6+ inches where I drilled. Ended up in 10-12 feet of water & jigged right near the bottom for an hour or so. My toes got numb and my mind started to drift to playoff football and cutting firewood. Forced myself to stay a while. Pulled the jig up about 4-5 feet off the bottom & caught two quick rainbows. Just blind luck, but 2 fresh trout is enough to keep me from going insane for another week.
The drive in from the north is awesome right now. Deer are stacked up in the big ranch country along 69. I never get tired of looking at em.
Not great fishing by most standards, but a perfect morning in my book.
