Chatfield suckers

Post By: Fisherman79      Posted: 1/14/2021 8:01:59 AM     Points: 381
Went to the north boat ramp yesterday afternoon. Looked scketchy but I knew there was good ice under the water. Anyways I have not had good luck at this lake all year. Mostly small perch an suckers. So if anyone is looking for sucker meat. I would so go to chatfield. I have 7 in the chest freezer now, all around the 18" mark. This one was cuaght with a small ice jig painted white with a single waxy on the bottom and lightly lifting until I seen my pole bend and then reeled up for hook set.

Thanks for the heads up.
Curious if the time of day matters.

Love the measuring tape. I got the same one. That right there is equal to gold, a lot of laker food right there.

With the sketchy ice.

Anyone available to attempt tomorrow (1/15) for a couple of hours?

Currently flexible with time but prefers between 9-1.

I want to stay on the safe side of the ice but just incase....

Feel free to text

For suckers I dont feel like there is a time of day. At least during the winter. Thier seem to be alot in the gravel pond that is south of chatty though. If you can deal with the sup boarders.

Fishhuntnow, totally got that tape measure after I seen it in your videos!! Glad I got that for one of my stocking stuffers before xmas. Lots of stuff not being stocked again.

It's funny, perch and suckers are something I never get out of Chatfield, but always hear about being in there. Well I did catch my PB perch there while slaying on some smallies, but thats the only one I have ever caught there.

Fisherman79, how thick was the ice in the boat cove?

Fish on son... the ice was still 8". I will be there around 12 or 2 until dark today and saturday morning with a buddy. Going to fish the north boat ramp today and try to get out more in the middle of the lake saturday out of the catfish flats. I went last sunday afternoon and had 8" out at the flats as well.

Definitely use caution. That wind the last couple of days could have changed things significantly. See Jackson post. I was out last weekend with no issues and I'm sure it didn't ruin everything, but there may be some sketchy spots.

Stopped by for a couple of hours at the north docks.
A few groups out there in 6” of ice. I didn’t venture out as far as others but they mentioned it was 6” also. I felt the ice was starting to soften up, almost like spring ice. My ice scoop melted into the ice around 2” deep.

Iced one rainbow and had a few lookers, no suckers except for me.

Current warm weather is not helping. Be careful, be safe and tight lines.
