Really struggled with where to fish yesterday. Crawford has been mainly dink perch, no intel on Miramonte, already fished Blue Mesa 3 times with good luck but ready for a change. So 3 of us headed to Vega seeing the fatties coming out of there and asking friends who fish it. Longer drive than I remember but we got there at eight, about 15 vehicles and 7 shelters already there. Started at 25-30 fow and found fish but only caught 2 slimers the first hour. We moved to 13-18 fow and found a decent bite from 9-10 for 8 nice rainbows, from 15-18” and fat. Bite got really slow after that and it took till 2 pm to get another 3 slimers and 2 more good ones. A mix of small pink, green and white jigs with either mealies or waxies took them. Deadsticked early, but all the later fish needed to be coaxed from the bottom with slow twitches. WmDunker on a previous thread asked what was in their stomachs. Plankton was the large majority plus the key forage that explains their orange flesh-2” crawdads!
