In February 2020 I drove to Monument due to nasty weather in the mountains and was shocked when I caught a 20", 3.5lbs brown trout. Well, it happened again! This morning I was not feeling up to the drive up the mountain so instead just went to Monument so I could simply wet a line for the first time in 2021.
I had just tied three new jigs made out of some deer hair I tanned from a whitetail I harvested back in November. I was giving them a try and got a bump off the bottom. After 30 minutes and trying a few other jigs I went to the second jig I had tied. A mark came up off the bottom as my jig was 2ft from the bottom, they met in the middle and the fight was on. I landed a 19" 3lbs brown, when I caught the one last year I thought this would never happen again. This is why I love fishing, you never know what you will hook into regardless of where you are.
