Ice fishing

Post By: camp yip      Posted: 12/26/2020 1:56:12 PM     Points: 0
Heading out to ice fish at Lake John within the next few days and looking for some input on which baits and/or jigs to use?

Also, we usually fish just off the main parking lot near the lake store. This time, I'd like to try a different spot.. What are your favorites? Oh come on, there's plenty of room on the lake!

Thanks, go fish, and stay safe!

Small tubes that imitate small minnows work best. A jig with a small minnow plastic (1”Berkley gulp) is another option.

Every corner has great fish. Some are near shore but the NE corner weeds are shallow until way out into the lake.

Do not be afraid to fish above weeds that almost reach the ice. It is easier for a big fish to chase a minnow in tight quarters.

What PikeD said sounds spot on. The only thing I would add is that I’ve seen them be a little line shy sometimes, so lighter or smaller diameter line can really help.

Good luck! Great suggestions above which work well most of the time just not this weekend. Many I talked to didn’t do well.
