Fish: Brook Trout

Brookies through the ice!

Post By: The Fishing Junky      Posted: 12/10/2020 9:06:48 PM     Points: 23
I invited all my buddies and a bunch of us got together for what we have turned into a yearly tradition. We all meet up and take a 2.5-mile hike up 900 feet into Colorado's Rocky Mountains, to fish a frozen high alpine lake. We fished super shallow in around 2.5-6 feet of water for these brook trout, we also caught a few lake trout and splakes as well. Heres a video on how that went, hope you guys enjoy the journey!!

Tamales and canned raviolis. Nice. I hit that lake up probably 7 times this summer but I hike up to the upper lakes after the drive up. Im sure I wouldnt after a 2.7 mile hike though. I have only caught small brookies at that lake. Nice fish. Here is one I caught in the lake just past the two above the one your at in this video. Slip bobber and night crawler got it. I never thought a fish this big would be in such a small lake but bam. There it was. Put it back for another day. O and can you tell me if the other one is a splake? I believe it is.

Hats off to you all. I would never make that hike! Tough enough in a truck. To my knowledge, there are no splake in there. It is a self-sustaining lake trout fishery. There are monster brookies in there. Enjoyed your video..

Thanks fishjunky. I thought it wss a snake river cutthroat though. Whatever it was it was a blast to see and hold. I was so afraid of Dropping It On the Rocks we put it back into the lake right away.
