Lake: Antero Reservoir

Antero report

Post By: The Fishing Junky      Posted: 11/16/2020 2:38:08 PM     Points: 17
Hey guys, so a buddy and I went to Antero this weekend looking for some open water browns. When we got there the lake was completely capped with ice! Unfortunately it wasnít thick enough to walk on except for in one area. We managed to make a day out of it, and I would put money on the lake being ready by this weekend or next.

Glad we were able to ice it and stay safe. Always go with people and have safety stuff guys! Even with the wind battering the ice it stayed intact. If the nights remain super cold like they do I think it'll only improve.

Was wondering if there may be enough open water to fly fish? Iím not sure if the weather will be thawing the lake or freezing it more. Was hoping to fly fish it on Wednesday... any thoughts?

Lucazoni,

The thing that sucks is I tried to open water fish on the part that had the open water but the ice sheets were floating everywhere making it hard to reterive.

The battle of the FishingJunkies! Maybe you two can have a fishing challenge and the loser cahnges the name. :p

Malty, let us know how it goes and how the south shore ice is. I'm VERY curious.

Yes, Iím curious too. Like I said, Iím hoping to fish it Wednesday.

However, I remember fishing it a year ago today (after it had thawed from initially freezing) and had a banter day fishing the ice line with streamers, chironomids, and leeches. Im hoping Iím able to replicate what I experienced last year, tomorrow, but we all know fishing is never that simple haha

I saw your YouTube video. Good stuff! How thick was the ice where you were?

Lucazoni,

I saw pictures of people open water fishing a small section on north shore. I warn night would help the cause for your open water fishing tomorrow.

South ramp has some fishable ice, but not very far beyond the breakwater.

North shore had several folks waiting for it to open this morning, but it hadnít opened up by noon. Likely to stay frozen for Wednesday. Bring an auger for Antero!

Thanks for the report Malty. We all appreciate it! The south shore looks like it'll be good for the rest of the ice season, since the cold temps are comin up there in a day or two.
