Fishing near Crystal Mill?

Post By: FishHuntNow      Posted: 10/11/2020 12:34:14 PM     Points: 1709
Me and the girlfriend have booked a camp site in Crystal, CO up near the Crystal Mill this Wednesday and Thursday. Wanted to go on a adventure and figure driving of the side on a mountain cliff would be exciting! I probably missed the fall colors which is ok. I was wondering if there is any ponds/lakes to fish up there? I see there's Crystal River, will bring the fly rod with me.

Beautiful place! You might want to try and fish the Roaring Fork north of the Carbondale bridge! About a 1/4 mile up from there is an old pedestrian bridge! Start there!

Man I’ve been watching many videos on that drive. Would like to take the trip one of these days. Have a good time. Bring back some pics with a story if ya find a hole or two.

Fishing in that part of the Crystal River is pretty sketchy. If you go back down the highway below the old stone castle there are a few spots, but I have found that the whitefish tend to dominate that part of the river. The Roaring Fork is a much better bet.

We drove to the mill a few years ago. We didnt fish but I scouted. The Crystal River had some nice looking pools and whitefish are on my bucket list. Before the 4wd trail is Beaver Lake and it looked good to fish. A quarter of the way up the trail before it got gnarly theres some beaver ponds that looked cool to fish (no lake page) and a guy was fishing them in a canoe all day.

Thank you all for your awesome responses.

Harper, thanks for the tip. Are the flows pretty decent out there for some fly fishing?

Gone_Fishin, I will bring all my filming gear and try to get a good video done with some fishing in it hopefully. Thank you.

Wmdunker, I like catching white fish so it wouldn't be that bad. I'd be interested to see if can catch some but I will at least give Roaring Fork a try.

Bron, thank you for the intel on the lake and the ponds, will do some research and see what I need to bring.
